Frequently
Asked Questions
Why
is there no cafeteria at Ikego?
We are in temporary
facilities while awaiting approval for the building of a permanent Pre-K
through 5 school. At this time we do not have a completion date for
the new school. Lunches are made in the cafeteria in Yokosuka and brought
to Ikego daily. The students eat lunch in the classrooms.
Why
are we not allowed to drive our children to and from school?
The one road leading
to our school is very narrow. There is no easy turn around spot for
cars. As a result of these to safety issues, it was decided by both
base and school officials to have a no driving policy.
If
we live on Ikego, may our children still attend The Sullivans School on
main base?
No. All residents
of Ikego in grades K-3 must attend Ikego Elementary. Sullivans is overcrowded
and cannot accommodate other students.
Will
my children receive the same high-quality education that they receive
in the states?
Yes they will. DoDDS
schools are accredited through North Central Association Commission
on Schools (NCA). Our curriculum standards, which are derived from respected
nation education organizations, parallel many US districts. Our teachers
are fully certified and come to us from districts throughout the United
States.
