Guidance
and Counseling
The goals of the program
are as follows:
- Help students
learn to value and respect themselves and other people
- Help students
them learn to make safe and helpful choices
- Help students
learn to solve problems in a helpful, peaceful way
- Help students
learn important social skills
- Help students
learn the importance of being in school, trying their best, and getting
an education
- Help students
explore different careers.
The counseling program
consists of four basic elements:
1. Classroom
Guidance Lessons. (This lesson might include a story, drawing
activity, group activity, class discussion, or role-playing activity.)
2. Small Group Guidance. (Special Need
groups will be formed and may include such topics as friendship skills,
families in transition, stress management, anger management, social
skills, etc.)
3. Individual Counseling. (Students may
be referred by teachers/administrators, parents, or themselves.)
4. Visiting with parents at school.
