First Grade
Currently, First Grade
is comprised of five classrooms. We plan and teach lessons together. For
special themes (ex. bats, apples, etc.) we rotate the children through
each first grade class. This team rotation makes first grade special because
we get to know and work with every student in our grade level. It is special
for the students because they are exposed to a variety of teachers and
teaching styles.
In first grade, we learn how to read and write. We learn about addition,
subtraction, measurement, time and money through hands-on and textbook
activities. We also learn about the world around us through science, health,
and social studies. We teach according to the current DoDDS curriculum
standards.
Field trips build on what we are learning in class. We plan field trips
that will enrich our students' experiences. The host nation provides many
opportunities to enhance the First Grade curriculum.
